For the fourth year, the National Motor Freight Traffic Association, Inc.® (NMFTA)® has signed on as a Cybersecurity Awareness Month Champion with the National Cybersecurity Alliance (NCA), co-led with the Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency (CISA).

Every October, Champions pledge to advocate for safer online behavior—and this year, NMFTA is proud to make it four in a row.

This year’s theme, “Don’t Make It Easy for Them,” is a fitting one for trucking. The campaign’s message is simple: cybersecurity isn’t about one perfect decision, it’s about small, consistent habits—strong passwords, multi-factor authentication (MFA), timely software updates, and knowing how to spot and report phishing.

“The fundamentals the NCA promotes every October (i.e. strong passwords, MFA, updated software, phishing awareness) are the same fundamentals we build into the standards we publish,” said Ben Wilkens, director of cybersecurity for NMFTA. “Being a Champion again isn’t a new commitment for us, it’s a continuation of work we’re already doing every day.”

“Cyber threats against trucking aren’t slowing down, and neither are we,” shared Joe Ohr, chief operations and technical officer for NMFTA. “Renewing our Champion status is a small gesture, but it reflects a much bigger one—our ongoing work setting the cybersecurity standards this industry relies on.”
