For years, small and midsized fleets operated under a dangerous assumption: they were too small to attract cybercriminals. Unfortunately, the opposite has proven true. Attackers often target smaller operations because they lack dedicated cybersecurity resources, operate with leaner defenses, and face greater pressure to pay when ransomware disrupts business. In today’s threat landscape, size is not protection—it can be a vulnerability.
While foundational cybersecurity practices such as strong passwords, multi-factor authentication, and timely patching remain essential, fleets also need actionable threat intelligence. Understanding how bad actors target the transportation industry, the tactics they use, and the steps organizations can take to defend against them can make the difference between preventing an incident and becoming the next victim.
In this webinar, NMFTA introduced the NMFTA Threat Report Portal, a centralized, anonymous platform for reporting cyberattacks and cyber-enabled cargo crime in real time. Attendees learned how industry-wide intelligence sharing can transform isolated incidents into actionable warnings, strengthen fleet defenses, and help the entire transportation sector respond more effectively to emerging threats.

Todd Florence joined Estes in 2020 as Chief Information Officer. He is responsible for directing and developing Estes’ information technology (IT) teams to deliver outstanding results for the company’s business while driving its culture and the vision for Estes’ IT roadmap. This bolsters his department’s overall goal of implementing the tools and technologies that make shipping frictionless for customers and teammates alike.
A strategic and performance-focused executive with over 20 years of collaborative leadership experience, Todd excels at defining direction, aligning people and resources, and delivering results that consistently exceed expectations. His resume also reflects his expertise with assessing varied cultural, business, and environmental drivers, right-sizing solutions, and delivery across a broad array of industries. Todd is a two-time graduate of The American University in Washington, DC, where he earned his Bachelor of Science degree in Finance and Economics, followed by an MBA in Finance and Global IT Management. He is also a Certified Scrum Master (CSM) and Six Sigma Yellow Belt, and has earned Project Management Professional (PMP) PMI accreditation (now expired).
Joe Ohr has more than two decades of experience in technical operations, customer success management, IT, customer support, and product support.
Currently serving as the Chief Operations and Technical Officer for the National Motor Freight Traffic Association, Inc.® (NMFTA)®, he plays a pivotal role in helping to advance the industry through digitization, classification, and cybersecurity.
Prior to Ohr’s role at NMFTA, he served as in numerous IT, engineering, and operations positions at Qualcomm and Eaton, and most recently held the position of Senior Vice President of Operations/Customer Experience at Omnitracs.
Ben Wilkens, CISSP, CCSP, CISM, is the Director of Cybersecurity at the NMFTA.
In his role at NMFTA, Ben spearheads research initiatives and leads teams dedicated to developing cutting-edge cybersecurity technologies, methodologies, and strategies to safeguard information systems and networks. He collaborates extensively with academic institutions, industry partners, and government agencies to advance cybersecurity practices and knowledge.
Ben provides expert insights and recommendations to organizations, enhancing their security posture and helping them navigate the constantly evolving landscape of cyber threats.
