Board Member Spotlight: Kris McLennan, A. Duie Pyle

In our ongoing Board Member Spotlight series, we’re proud to feature Kris McLennan of A. Duie Pyle, Inc., Vice President of Yield Management. Through this series, we highlight the individuals helping guide the National Motor Freight Traffic Association, Inc.® (NMFTA)® forward, sharing their unique journeys, perspectives, and the expertise they bring to the board.

In this Q&A, Kris shares the story of her nearly 40-year career in the trucking industry, her passion for fostering growth and opportunity within the supply chain, and her excitement about contributing to NMFTA’s continued evolution. She also offers insight into the importance of community, collaboration, and creating a welcoming environment where members can learn, connect, and thrive.

What is your background in the trucking industry? How did you get your start?

I started working in the billing department after school when I was in high school. My sister worked as a Biller (she was going to college), and they needed help on Friday nights, so the little sister without a social life was signed up. A. Duie Pyle had one terminal back then, and that turned out to be a blessing because we learned it all. It was too small to have specialized departments like we do today. Those after school hours turned into hours on the rates team while I went to college, which then blossomed into roles in pricing, evolving to the role I have today almost 40-years later.

What excites you most about this role?

I see NMFTA as still being young with many industry-changing years ahead of itself. Being able to be a part of this growth cycle and working alongside others to help guide the growth and evolution is very exciting. We are on the cusp of great industry leading tools that others will benefit from.

What is your favorite aspect of working in the supply chain industry?

Helping the youth understand this industry and bring out their potential as leaders. So many people assume we are just dirty trucks. This industry comes with so many layers and the people that literally and figuratively drive this nation are often lost.

What does “community” mean to you within our association?

Community means family to me. Not in the evil stepsister kind of way, but more of the warm grandmother that always has homemade cookies for us. I desire an association that feels safe to ask questions, share ideas, and provide opportunities to grow from the experiences of others. One that educates and provides a positive experience when attending functions.

How do you like to spend your time outside of work? Describe your ideal day.

I honestly try to do this on Sundays. I sit outside with the sun on my face and enjoy the birds and my dog running around. A sense of no time clock or chores to be done. A true sense of relaxation.

What is one item on your bucket list that you’re most excited to check off?

Taking my dog to the ocean. Sounds like the easiest item on my list (of many) however for some reason every weekend comes and goes, and this remains!
