James Bentley is the Principal Classification Lead at the National Motor Freight Traffic Association, Inc.® (NMFTA)®.

James brings more than 35 years of LTL industry experience to his new role as Principal of Classification the NMFTA. His career has spanned nearly every side of the freight equation, including management, sales, terminal operations, third-party logistics, billing and claims, supply-chain optimization, packaging and configurations, and direct work with LTL carriers, shippers and major manufacturers.

Throughout his career, James has focused on finding practical ways to make freight movement more efficient, understandable and equitable. His broad experience across the supply chain has given him a unique perspective on how density, classification, packaging and freight characteristics affect both cost and operational efficiency. In his role at the NMFTA, he will combine that hands-on industry experience with input from carriers, shippers, 3PLs and other stakeholders as the organization continues to reimagine and improve the freight classification system.

A natural problem solver, Jim enjoys challenging conventional thinking and looking for better, more efficient ways to approach complex problems. He is excited about the opportunity to give back to an industry that has been an important part of his professional and personal life for more than three decades.
