The National Motor Freight Traffic Association, Inc. (NMFTA) is pleased to announce release 1.0 of the Open Telematics API (OTAPI) to enable business resiliency for motor freight carriers with tight integrations into Telematics Service Providers (TSPs). The Open Telematics API facilitates interoperability between telematics service providers’ interfaces and motor freight carriers’ systems by standardizing the data format and methods for retrieving telematics logs and data. It was developed in partnership with a number of global telematics service providers, motor carriers and cyber security experts with a focus on use cases, feasibility and secure service.

Release 1.0 focuses on the most business critical use cases, as identified by motor carrier contributors, to promote business continuity and a carrier’s ability to meet Hours of Service (HOS) reporting requirements in case of an extended business interruption/termination from an Electronic Logging Device (ELD) provider. OTAPI does not affect any other aspects of TSP-Carrier connections, data storage or access controls over the data. Relevant cyber security best practices have been built into the requirements. Release 1.0 can be downloaded here https://github.com/nmfta-repo/nmfta-opentelematics-api/releases/tag/v1.0.

Please submit comments, questions or feedback about the Open Telematics API via the Issues tab on the GitHub repository here https://github.com/nmfta-repo/nmfta-opentelematics-api.
