Designation Reflects the Association’s Ongoing Commitment to the Digital Well-Being of the Trucking Industry

Alexandria, Virginia, September 26, 2023 – The National Motor Freight Traffic Association (NMFTA) has joined a variety of leading organizations nationwide in committing to be a 2023 Cybersecurity Awareness Month Champion.

Sponsored by the National Cybersecurity Alliance (NCA), the Champion designation reflects organizations that are dedicated to promoting a safer, more secure, and more trusted internet. NMFTA signed the pledge in September 2023, joining a wide variety of leading organizations listed here.

For NMFTA, the designation is a natural reflection of its industry-leading role in advocating cybersecurity for the trucking industry.

“As we have seen the importance of digitizing our industry, we have also recognized that trucking organizations will face vulnerabilities from cyber attackers if they don’t take the right steps to protect themselves,” said Debbie Sparks, executive director of NMFTA. “By bringing together some of the best cybersecurity talent in the industry and holding annual conferences on the issue, NMFTA has made a significant and positive impact on the industry’s position, and we are all proud of what we’ve accomplished so far. There is still much work to be done, but by joining the roster of 2023 Cybersecurity Awareness Month Champions, we put an exclamation point on our achievements to date.”

A highlight of NMFTA’s steadfast effort is the annual Digital Solutions Conference on Cybersecurity, which features leading presenters from throughout the trucking and cybersecurity fields to help keep the industry up to speed on the latest developments, threats, and solutions. This year’s event takes place in Houston, TX from October 22-25, 2023, and registration is still available. There is no cost to attend this event.

In 2023, NMFTA hired Antwan Banks to take on the director of enterprise security role–helping trucking companies to secure their full enterprises against cyberattacks, in addition to the strategies designed to secure their over-the-road assets.

NMFTA invites other organizations to join the current group of 2023 Cybersecurity Awareness Month Champions and to keep working toward the vision of a safer, more secure, and more trusted internet.

The NMFTA provides ongoing, free education to all trucking and supply chain companies in cybersecurity. Visit www.nmfta.org/nmfta-events for more information.
