Four Ways to Use ClassIT+ to Prepare for the Upcoming Docket Changes

Sarah Cottrell - January 26, 2026

ClassIT+™ helps you stay on top of National Motor Freight Classification® (NMFC)™ Data updates, which can mean the difference between planning ahead to ensure uninterrupted business or being blindsided by misclassifications, which can eat into your bottom line. To help you gain an edge in your business savvy, use ClassIT+ to prepare for the upcoming NMFC Data updates and leave those misclassification fears behind.

It is important to know that the NMFC Data update lifecycle occurs two times a year, beginning with a compilation of proposals released as a Docket and culminating in the publication of a Supplement. The Supplement is issued about one month before its effective date, giving you time to prepare for the updates.

Now, let’s take a closer look at how ClassIT+ can help you prepare for those changes.

1. Access NMFC Publications

ClassIT+ subscribers can quickly and easily access the digitized NMFC Book as well as important publications related to the NMFC Data updates, including the Docket, Disposition Bulletin, Supplements, and more under the My Resources section of ClassIT+.

Why are these publications so important? Let’s take a few minutes to learn more.

Docket

For more nuanced information about data updates and to view the proposed details, you can access the Docket from the ClassIT+ NMFC Book section. Once issued, Dockets are also available in the ClassIT+ Search feature, which includes a filter that can search through the last ten years’ worth of Dockets.

See Accessing the ClassIT+ Public Docket and Public Disposition Bulletin for more information.

Disposition Bulletin

ClassIT+ subscribers have exclusive access to the expanded version of the Disposition Bulletin spreadsheet, giving you complete access to all the details regarding the approved changes. This expanded version makes it easy for you and your team to plan and prepare for the upcoming data updates.

See Accessing the ClassIT+ NMFC Book Disposition Bulletin (Subscription Access Only) for more information.

Supplement

When you subscribe to ClassIT+, you can also consult the latest Supplement or search through historical Supplements from the last 10 years. Working on a historical analysis? You can also request archived Supplements to help with your research.

Like the Docket, once the Supplement becomes effective, it is also searchable in the ClassIT+ Search feature, which includes a filter that can search through the last ten years’ worth of Supplements.

See Accessing ClassIT+ NMFC Book Supplements for more information.

2. Prepare and See What Data Changes Are Coming Soon

One of the smartest ways to prepare for upcoming data updates and dodge the possibility of misclassifications is to take advantage of the Coming Soon tool. This tool searches data that is being updated and issued in the Disposition Bulletin but is not yet effective. This means that you can look up item numbers that matter to your business and see if they would be impacted by upcoming data updates, giving you precious time to prepare for data updates before they happen.

See Exploring the ClassIT+ Coming Soon Tool for more information.

3. Quickly Find Effective Data Changes and What’s New

No matter how prepared you may be for data updates, you still need a tool that helps you keep a finger on the pulse of recent changes; that’s where the What’s New tool comes in handy. This essential tool searches data that has been recently updated and is effective. This means that if you need to know what updates recently happened, you can tap into the What’s New tool to search for the item numbers that matter the most to your business.

See Exploring ClassIT+ What’s New for more information.

4. Easily Search Effective Changes

ClassIT+ Search is the go-to tool for searching all effective data, both changed and unchanged. You can quickly customize your searches by using the built-in search filters, helping you sift through Supplements, Dockets, historical data, and more to help you find what you’re looking for.

See Exploring ClassIT+ Search for more information.
