The LTL Industry Council is a member-driven body operating under the National Motor Freight Traffic Association, Inc.® (NMFTA)® that provides governance, collaboration, and strategic direction for the less-than-truckload (LTL) motor carrier industry.
Its primary purpose is to promote, advance, and protect the welfare and interests of LTL carriers engaged in domestic and international commerce. The Council serves as a forum where NMFTA member carriers collaborate on key operational, regulatory, and industry challenges, with a focus on areas such as traffic, yield management, and broader LTL business practices.
Participation in the LTL Industry Council is limited to NMFTA member LTL carriers, ensuring that its work is guided by organizations directly involved in LTL operations. Through structured leadership by elected officers and oversight from NMFTA, the Council coordinates meetings, committees, programs, and task forces that develop research, best practices, and other work products to support the industry.
The LTL Industry Council also facilitates engagement across NMFTA committees and initiatives—such as classification, carrier procedures, regulatory matters, and digital LTL—while offering opportunities for benchmarking, networking, and industry alignment. Its outputs, owned and administered by NMFTA, are made available to participants to help drive consistency, efficiency, and informed decision-making across the LTL sector.
