The National Motor Freight Traffic Association (NMFTA) is excited to announce its new, complimentary webinar series. The first cybersecurity webinar in the series was held May 4: Penetration Testing Engagement Best Practices. The webinar was offered at no charge for all audiences.

Are your systems secure? Do you regularly test for vulnerabilities? NMFTA’s Director of Enterprise Security, Antwan Banks, moderated the Penetration Testing Engagement Best Practices webinar on May 4. IOActive’s Senior Vice President of Research & Strategy, John Sheehy, presented. 

Penetration testing uses real threat actors’ techniques and tools to attack a system or environment to identify vulnerabilities. This valuable webinar comprises: 

  • An introduction to penetration testing that includes essential terms to know and understand.
  • Different types of testing currently available.
  • The significance of the results and how to use them most effectively. 

John guided attendees in choosing the appropriate testing for your organization’s needs to ensure you get the best testing solution. He covered best practices—including beneficial tips and tricks, to get the most worth out of your penetration testing efforts. 

Finally, John and Antwan provided insight into more advanced testing methodologies and threat intelligence applicable to transportation.

Meet the Speakers

John Sheehy has overseen multiple projects delivering identity management, threat modeling, industrial control systems security, risk assessment, security policy, secure device design, and incident and breach simulation and response services. His experience includes over 20 years of system architecture, systems integration, and information security experience working in enterprise architecture, identity and access management, vulnerability and threat management, operations technology, security strategy, systems architecture, and hardware/application security domains. He currently leads IOActive’s research program, corporate strategy, and service offering development. 

Antwan Banks recently joined NMFTA as its director of enterprise security. He is a veteran of Operation Desert Storm and most recently served as director of cybersecurity for the Metropolitan Atlanta Rapid Transit Authority. In the nine years he served in that position, he ensured that the authority would be well-protected by focusing on security tools, training, budgeting, strategic and tactical directions, intelligence programs, incident response and many other crucial priorities. Prior to his tenure with the Transit Authority, Antwan served as senior security engineer for Turner Broadcasting System, and was also a computer security consultant for the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services and Centers for Disease Control.
