ABOUT THIS ROLE
We are currently looking for a Research Analyst in the Classification Department. The Classifications group helps develop freight classes to help LTL companies decide the optimal way to organize specific goods on the truck. These classes also help to determine the cost of shipping based on the product’s density, stowability, liability and handling. This position will support the department’s efforts as follows:
- Conduct research and propose changes to facilitate maintenance and improvement of the NMFC in order to provide as much utility to its stakeholders as possible.
- Provide services and expertise related to the various functions of NMFTA to its members.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Conduct research projects on commodities as assigned
- Collect, record and analyze data
- Interpret data analysis results, draw inferences, and conclusions
- Use mathematical models to determine objective answers based on data
- Identify trends and make recommendations to improve from same
- Review various materials, including in-house records, historical files, publications and the internet
- Carrier-member visits
- Log product information obtained through sources (carrier information forms, etc.)
- Follow classification checklist to review data
- Perform various data analytical measures and determine approach
- Author written reports (5-6 proposals a docket, 3 dockets a year)
- Prepare for and attend NMFTA committee meetings
- Help develop agenda topics with legal counsel (three meetings per year)
- Assist in creating visual presentations for meetings, and review minutes prior to distribution to members
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree
- Research experience (2+ years)
- Strong documentation skills
- Attention to detail a must
- Travel 20%
